Worst is, you feel like everyone else knows exactly what the presenter or trainer is saying and you feel a little bit embarrassed or intimidated to ask?

 The good news is, you are not alone. As an educator and a marketer I have been guilty of using these jargons. Luckily, some people do have the guts to ask “What does LMS stand for?”

 So I thought I’d go through a list of mainstream marketing acronyms, what they mean and why you need to know them.

Here are 11 Mainstream Marketing Acronyms You Need To Know

  • BR: Bounce Rate

This has 2 meanings, 1: how many emails that you sent didn’t reach their destination because the email address was wrong. 2: how many people jumped on your website and jumped straight off without clicking on another page.

  • CMS: Content Management System

This refers to a website development platform that you can manage yourself without knowing how to code. Popular CMS platforms are WordPress, Squarespace, and Wix.

  • CPC: Cost-per-Click

This is a term that refers to advertising. It is a way to measure and pay for clicks on your ad. Usually, this metric is used in Social Media and Google ads.

  • CRM: Customer Relationship Management

This is your customer data tracking tool. In its simplest form, it houses your database, and any extra info you have on each customer, and helps you track your interactions with them. Such as where they are in your pipeline when was the last time you contacted them and any notes you have to remember them by.

  • CTA: Call-to-Action

This is the most important and the most forgotten term. This is an action word/words asking your prospective customers to take the next step. Follow, buy now, give us a review, and book a call.

  • CTR: Clickthrough Rate

This has 3 meanings, 1: how many people clicked on a link in an email you sent. 2: how many people clicked on a link on your website. 3: how many people clicked on a link in your ad.

  • EDM: Email Direct Marketing

Not Electronic Dance Music This refers to marketing material sent to an email. Mimicking Direct Marketing such as a letterbox drop. This is an inbox drop.

  • LMS: Learner Management System

This refers to an online platform designed to house and deliver courses and programs.

  • MRR: Monthly Recurring Revenue

How much money is your business predictably making per month. Usually used in subscription-based business models such as Netflix.

  • SEO: Search Engine Optimisation

Optimizing your website to be found by a search engine such as Google. This is done in the way your website is set up and then in the continuous content added to your website such as blogs.

  • NSFW: Not Safe For Work

This is a great acronym to warn your friends that the content you are sharing is not safe to open/look at work
